The challenge
For a company such as Visma and its customers, it is important that solutions are reliable, user-friendly and easily supported. Visma been developing and delivering mobile platforms for a number of years. Previously, the challenge was to find a solution that was not just based on wireless connection to peripheral units. Using Epson's hardware solutions, it is now not only possible to communicate via a wireless connection, you can also use a combination of new or existing retail computer equipment that can be connected by means of a traditional cable connection.
The solution
The choice for Visma was two receipt printers: The Epson TM-P20 portable printer and the TM-T88Vi intelligent printer. Visma uses the TM-T88Vi as a communications hub to connect new equipment or reuse existing retail computer equipment such as scanners, customer displays and cashboxes. A TM-P20 is used as a portable receipt printer. The new solution with the intelligent printer creates new possibilities for the store and its staff. It means tremendous opportunities, including for other retailers, to provide employees with mobile phones or let them use their own phones so they are always equipped with a cash register to facilitate purchases. Staff are no longer tied to a particular till and that opens up the possibility of new kinds of encounters between customers and sales staff. In practice, it's like having a mobile cash register via a tablet or smartphone and you only need an Epson TM-T88Vi to act as a communications hub in the POS environment. The POS intelligence is in the software installed on the mobile device. Retail staff are free to connect to whatever sales station they want via an Epson TM-T88Vi. Visma believes that this will change the entire view of the paydesk as a fixed point in the shop. The ability to accompany the customer and not be tied to a traditional location creates opportunities to customise a store visit and provide personal service on a whole new level.
The benefits
Visma has a reliable solution in which devices do not need to be paired manually with one another. Instead, this takes place automatically when Visma Retail's POS app is opened. The Epson intelligent printer becomes the hub in a mobile or stationary POS system. Visma also highlights the flexibility of using or reusing existing wired POS equipment that staff are already familiar with to build a modern solution that now also communicates freely with wireless devices. The collaboration between Epson and Visma is completely unique and is now one of the standard solutions that Visma is able to provide for new or existing customers.
