Liverpool John Moores University chooses EB-G5750WU and EB-Z8000WU

Liverpool John Moores University has selected Epson projectors as part of its audio-visual refresh within its faculty of arts, professional and social studies. The School of Law, Liverpool Business School and the Liverpool Screen School, all contained within the new £37.6million Redmonds Building, are now using 40 of Epson’s EB-G5750WU and two EB-Z8000WU models, to support the increasing use of multimedia content in lectures. Installed by AV specialists PureAV, the new projector fleet provides the department with full high-definition display capabilities, delivering much higher image quality than the University previously had.

How the projectors work

Each projector is connected to an AV switching rack via an HDMI cable, allowing it to display images from a range of sources including PCs, IP/Video camera and a Blu-Ray player. As a next step, the University is looking to take advantage of the wireless connectivity offered by the projectors, which will allow students and teachers to display content directly from iPads and iPhones. For the Liverpool Screen School, which offers undergraduate courses in Creative Writing, Drama, Film Studies, Journalism and Media Professional Studies, this ability to display different types of multimedia content is especially important.

The high brightness output of the two Z-series projectors, up to 6,000 lumens, allows the University to ensure superb image quality even in rooms with high levels of ambient light. The University also required a contrast ratio of at least 15:1, which both projector models  are able to deliver, ensuring text is easy to read and colours are more vivid.

Students benefit from new technology

“With students learning from a wider range of digital media than ever before, including virtual lectures, online videos, mobile content and imagery, having projectors that can display this variety of materials was paramount, and the Epson projectors allow us to do this in high-definition quality,” said Mark Devitt, Assistant Director, Estate Management, Liverpool John Moores University.

Because of the number of Epson projectors the University is now using, it has been able to sign up to the Epson Self-Maintainer programme. As well as providing end-user maintenance training, the scheme also means that the University has access to a spare projector which can be instantly swapped with a defective unit, ensuring no teaching time is lost in cases of projector failure.

“It is great to see Liverpool John Moores University providing its students and lecturers with the digital connectivity and HD image quality that is becoming increasingly important to the University learning experience. We’re sure the projectors will make a dramatic difference to the quality of visual presentations and lectures, while making the IT department’s life easier through equipping staff with the skills they need to get up and running with the new technology as quickly as possible,” concludes Graeme Davidson, business manager, Epson UK.
